Our Monday team, which is a mix of ReU and 3U players has finished the first season of the Shanghai Stadium 7s league with a truly impressive performance. After 14 games (12 league games, 1 semifinal, 1 final) the final result was an incredible 14 wins and thus a well-deserved title.
However the last two knock-out games were some tough pieces of work. The semifinal ended 1-0 from a penalty, which was converted by Monday legend Seb Andersson. This paved the way to the final against SJFC, who gave us a hard time already in the opening game of the season. Reinforced by some Lions players we expected a tough challenge.
The first half of the game showed chances on both sides. However SJFC were more effective in carrying out their attacks: once we lost track of Shlowmo he showed his left-foot skills and made it 1-0 for them – paid for though with a painful hit in the family jewels after a crash with Cody. Nevertheless all were able to continue and SJFC managed to add another one. After we lost a ball during the build-up of the game a quick combination extended their lead to 2-0, which was the halftime score.
Second half our gameplay was much more dangerous than in first half though. We created plenty of chances and did not allow our opponents to become too dangerous any more. Yet it took us 12 minutes to make one goal back – scored by Oraz after a beautiful short-pass combination. We stepped up our efforts even more and were rolling relentless attacks on their goal. 5 minutes to the end it was Thomas who scored the equalizer after a one-two combination with Jan. Just two minutes later our fighting horse Alex did it himself and put the ball in the upper right corner of the net for a 3-2 final score. This concluded a hard-fought but well deserved victory and a great success for our team.
A special thanks here goes to Cody and Mike who organize the ReU team, Lee who has been the Monday midfield maestro until he decided to pull off a John Wayne and ride his motorcycle westward into the sunset, and of course every single player who contributed throughout the season to make this title happen.
Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
sorry??? 1 draw, 1 lost…… 14 wins you say…. hahahahahaha
Dear Javier, thanks for your humble comment, but please check clearly. This post from July was about the spring season which we won with 14 wins. I assume you refer to the summer season, where we dropped some points but also won after a tough campaign against challenging opponents. Thanks
