ReUnited came unstuck and suffered their first league defeat of the season against their old foe the Lions. It was a close match but once again, the French team’s superior shape and organisation meant they carried away all three points.
The match started badly for us when Will tripped their striker Dani in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Stand in keeper Alvaro spared the defender’s blushes by saving Azzedine’s penalty high to the left.
The Lions were pushing though and we were penned back a bit. The pressure grew and their passing was making headway through our ranks whilst we were finding it hard to create moves. This paid off for the French team when they scored from a corner. Dani rising highest to head in at the far post.
In the second half we made a concerted effort to push our line up and put the opposition under pressure. As a result much of the second half was played in their territory and we created a handful of decent chances. The best falling to Mandela on the turn with their keeper making a fine stop.
You have to take any chances you get against the Lions as they come extremely rarely. We went away disappointed that we hadn’t taken a point but they are a fantastic team who haven’t been beaten in the league for over two years.
