ReUnited made a great start to a tough three weeks with a convincing win over a strong Italian side. With back to back games against champions the Shooters coming up, this was a timely confidence boost.
It took us a while to get into our stride with Azzurri on top for the first quarter of the match. Their clearest sight of goal came when Adam was put through but Cody saved brilliantly and then again, diving bravely at the feet of the Italian the ball had fallen to.
When we went ahead it was against the run of play but it was a sparkling move with Jonas tapping home after good work from Essien starting the move and Steve splitting Azzurri’s defence from deep midfield. After that we felt more comfortable and scored another as Denys reacted brilliantly to Azzurri’s keeper going walkabout to chip in from 20 yards.
We were under pressure less in the second half and were comfortable with our two goal cushion for the most part. Three goal cushions were squandered quickly as Markus’ and Jonas’ goals were quickly cancelled out by Italian strikes.
At 4-2 Azzurri never really looked like coming back into the game though and their efforts fizzled out, leaving us with three valuable points in our quest for the title.
