ReUnited beat the Lions in the league for the first time and although it must be noted that this was a weakened Lions team, it was a good performance and the three points are still highly valuable in our chase for the title.
We are on the home straight now and five more wins (a difficult but achievable task) will see the biggest prize in our hands for the first time in our history.
The match started cagily with some of our players arriving late, at one point it seemed that Coach Becker would be making a surprise appearance! The Lions had the better of the early exchanges and even hit the post.
Gradually we started to find our way into the game though with Lucas spraying passes from a central position and opening the French up on the wings. Adam fired our best chance over the bar from an angle and we went into the break at 0-0.
It was clear this was our best opportunity to beat the Lions and a golden three points we could not pass up if we wanted to be true title contenders. The second half was a crucial half of football and the tension and focus were there as we kicked off.
We came out strong and Alex ran into the box to score with the help of a slight deflection. Then the goals quickly started flowing with Lucas and a Steve brace completing the scoring. It was a great second half with men of the match Ronald and Lucas running the game from central midfield.
And so every game is a cup final from now on and more appearances in training from our first team players would help us to unify further. Let’s take this title, lads!
