December 13 as the last gameday for both our teams in 2014. The quarter final of the Hebiguchi cup saw the leader of the 1st division the Krauts pitted against ReUnited at Songjiang Sports Center.
We started with two deep standing lines, giving the Krauts lots of space to play. And ze Germans created some chances that were brilliantly saved by our Texan goalkeeper Cody. But the longer the game went, the more we took control of it. There were still chances on both sides, but the clearer ones were for the men in red, resulting in several corners. In the 32nd minute Karsten delivered one of these corners long into the Krauts box where Tobi took a few steps and jumped unmarked higher than anybody else and headed the ball beautifully placed into the left corner of the goal for a 1:0 ReU lead. We pressed now more but there were still chances on both sides and the Krauts felt that they were still very much in the game.
And it took until the 67th minute when a long ball was played to Tobi, who took it down near the left corner of the box, dribbled two defenders and played a clever pass to Adam on the other side of the box who converted easily for a 2:0 ReUnited lead.
In the 77th minute a free kick from the right side was awarded to the Krauts. The ball came in long to Stoyan Atsarov who beat Cody with a powerful header.
Both teams now intensified their efforts, the Krauts to turn the game and ReUnited to seal the win, but soon the Krauts players couldn’t keep up with the pace of the ReU offense anymore and attack over attack was rolling onto the Krauts goal.
A ball from Tobi came perfectly into the feet of Luismi near the penalty spot, but the Spaniard fumbled it into the arms of the keeper. Soon later Eitel was through alone in front of the goalie but he took too long and a good tackle of a Krauts defender cleared the ball off his feet.
Then in the 86th minute, our Brazilian fullback Lucas ran over the left wing, received a perfectly timed diagonal ball, stormed into the box and placed the ball close to the long post into the net for the 3:1.
Now the Krauts defense that had been so stable for 85 minutes broke completely and the next run over the left wing came 2 minutes later through Adam who’s shot was blocked by the keeper. The rebound came to Steve who had no problems to slot in for the 4:1.
In the last minute Tobi was played through on the right wing and crossed long to Adam who finalized the 5:1 ReUnited win with his second goal of the day in his comeback game after a 7 week break from football, ensuring that his team advances to the semi finals. Man of the match was awarded to Tobi who was always a threat to the Krauts defense.
