Saturday we concluded our season with the traditional SIFL closing tournament. It was a great day with all 17 league teams present. Since our club is ever expanding we managed for the second time to register even a third team to this tournament, making it a total of 18 participating teams. Our newest team FreeUnited was a mix of ReU and 3U players, with many regulars from the Monday league, so their good performance was no surprise whatsoever.

All our teams started very strong in the group stage. Most notably FreeU drew against Azzurri, who fielded a former Real Madrid player who is now a Real Sociedad professional. Yet this was not enough to beat our defense and the scouts saw Fabio stealing the ball from Granero with ease. The low point of the game though was when Matthias twisted his leg in a very unfortunate way and had to be carried off the field with an injury. At the hospital it was confirmed that his fibula was broken – we wish him a quick recovery and hope to see him back on the field as soon as possible!

After the first 4 games all our three teams managed to finish first or second in their respective group, meaning that all teams advanced to the gold cup. In the gold cup most of us could feel the impact of heat and a shortage of substitutes and had some mixed results. However even though we did not manage to win any silverware in this tournament, the results for the club were overall satisfying and we are looking forward to be back stronger after a well-deserved summer break.

Later that day the official season-ending ceremony took place. It was a great party with a lot of friends, girlfriends, wives, children and even dogs joining and we had an amazing time (including quite some refreshments such as beers or the children’s pool). 3United received the plate cup trophies for the season opening tournament and this year’s SIFL plate cup. ReUnited was awarded with the runners-up trophies for the SIFL premier league and the Hebiguchi cup.

Not surprisingly, our performances resulted also in quite a few individual awards:
Most notably Stevie Wonder was nominated SIFL Player of the Year and also received the golden boot for the top scorer of the year. Well done Steve!
Equally important our coach Seb received for the second time a well-deserved “Coach of the Year”-trophy. We want to take this opportunity to thank him for his relentless effort to strengthen the club and making our club what it is today – thank you Seb!!
Furthermore Seb Kühn, Tobi, Steve, Alejandro and Vernon all made it in the dream teams of the premier league or the first division respectively. Great job guys!

Last but not least it is time to thank every single player and friend of the club who joined us on our way this year, on or off the pitch. Every one of you contributes to making this club so special! The ReUnited spirit is greater than ever and we can’t wait to be back even stronger next season. We wish everyone a great summer and conclude the season with the only appropriate words:

Reeeeeeeeeeee/Threeeeeeeeeee/Freeeeeeeeeeee-UUUUUUUU-NIIIIIIIIIIIIII-TEEEEEEEEEED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
