ReUnited maintained their unbeaten start but lost momentum in a pulsating 1-1 draw with the champions. It felt like a defeat though with the Lions equalising in the 89th minute.
It was a typically tight and hard fought game against the French and we struggled to create chances in the first half. The French had a couple of shots on goal which Cody was largely untroubled by.
We almost took the lead when Karsten curled a high ball into the box and Mandela flicked on for the onrushing Adam, whose shot was well saved. Other than that there was nothing clear cut and we were struggling to pass the ball and put the Lions under pressure.
The second half was a different game though with more space available and our attacking player getting into their groove. We took the lead through Adam’s low shot and then the Lions had to come out, leaving us with lots of space on the counter attack. We subsequently missed three or four chances to score a crucial second.
And in the end we were punished when a ball over the top was lobbed expertly into the goal by David Rosenberg for the equaliser. It was heart-breaking but not unjust on the balance of play.
