In another battle top of the table battle, 3United went head to head with the Vikings. This game would decide who would be in first on the table, as there were no other 1st division league games being played that weekend. Would it be the 3United melting pot or the Viking Danes?
On yet another slightly muddy pitch, the start of the first half was quite sloppy with possession being traded back and forth without seeing much danger on either side of the pitch. 3United was getting caught in the middle of the pitch while the Vikings were getting beaten on their throughballs. One of their throughballs scrambled past a defender and squirmed out the back line to give the Vikings a corner kick. 3United had every player marked but the curving corner was misjudged and deflected off a defender’s shoulder which then bounced across the goal line to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. A few minutes later, a skidding ball in the box was fumbled by the 3United keeper and was called for a foul in the box for a debateably dropped and re-picked up ball. Having just conceded a goal, the hearts of the defenders were pounding but the second play restarted, they pounced onto the free ball and quelled the threat. 3United were on the defense for the next 15 minutes, recovering from the conceded goal and foul but the defense prevailed and once again kept an offense from being able to put any clear shot onto goal. By the end of the half, 3United were finally getting their wits back and started to earn back possession pushing attacking plays into the Viking half. However, they were unable to put a ball into the back of the net before the halftime whistle blew.
Not too many words were spoken on the 3United sideline as the team knew what tactics needed to play, but more importantly knew how to prepare mentally for the next 45 minutes. After a quick tactical change, the team took the field again ready to take back the game.
3United’s resolve shone through in the second half as they dominated possession and spent the majority of the half in Viking territory looking for goals. They were rewarded when a ball went out for a corner about 20 minutes in. Luismi Ramos left footed an out-swinging free kick across the box, to an ever-ready Alejandro Verni who made a perfectly timed jump to smash a header across goal for the tying score. In the remaining 25 minutes, 3United was able to create a myriad of great chances on goal giving the keeper some work in goal. A few shots went wide, a few deflected off defenders and a few were saved by the keeper but 3United was unable to put in the winner. The Vikings were awarded a few corner of their own in the second half but 3United was not going to make the same mistake twice and cleared all balls out of the danger area. Unfortunately for both sides, there was not a second goal for either team and the game ended as a 1-1 draw.
This results leaves the table rankings unchanged with 3United in first and Vikings still in second. Man of the match for 3United was Luismis Ramos.
