3United with arguable the toughest schedule in the Premier League, took on the Shooters last Saturday, October 15th. Facing potentially the strongest team in the league, 3U went in testing the waters and to give it their all.
The game started with a very defensive 3U side with most of the team sitting far back in their own half. The team soon found out that this was the wrong way to face a midfield heavy Shooters team. Struggling to challenge for the 50-50 balls, giving their opponents too much time in the midfield and unused to have so many players in the back, the Shooters punched a few holes through the defense and scored 3 within the first 30 minutes. Coach Peythieu of 3U, switched the formation back to a more familiar 4-4-2 and the game dynamics changed with 3United able to create some dangerous chances at the Shooters’ end of the pitch. However, they were unable to lessen the Shooters lead before the half time whistle blew. Half-time score: 3:0, Shooters.
The second half played out similarly to the end of the first, with both teams trading chances in each other’s halves. 3United looked like they were going to be able to at least cut the Shooters lead by 2, with a pair of very dangerous chances on goal, but the Shooters’ defense was able to close down the threats at the last seconds leaving 3U goal-less. With around 20 minutes left to go, the Shooters were able to get through the midfield on a break away and score past the defense, solidifying their lead at 4. 3United never gave up despite all odds and were pressing hard the entire rest of the game – looking for at least one goal but unfortunately it wasn’t in the cards for them on that Saturday. The game ended with a solid win for the Shooters, 4-0.
Nick Law received man of the match honors for 3United.
